Announcing an adventure contest with a payoff of $500 for the first team to complete all the challenges.....That's right a Five Hundred Dollar Cash prize! This contest is being put together by the Lizard's n Toad's adventure team....

The Lizard Toad team consists of the Cach-U-Nuts, Potter and Suzer, and DHobby1.

Some things you'll want to consider when putting your team together:

  • You will most certainly need a team member who has good mapping skills and can calculate a waypoint based on a starting point, a direction and a distance.
  • A Laptop, cell phone and digital camera will be very helpful.
  • You will most likely need a team member with good hiking abilites.
  • A four wheel drive vehicle or ATV may be an advantage.
  • You may encounter a challenge that will require a water craft.
  • And don't be surprized if you find yourself in need of a metal detector.

There will be approximately 10 objectives to be found....These are not your average run of the mill caches.

The target "START" date will be around the first weekend of September (2004). This advance announcement is being made so you will have time to put your team together and start some initial planning. Watch for further details and start getting your team together!

On your mark, get set, go!

We are on target for having the contest ready to release this weekend. We are planning on starting a new thread in this forum at 7:00 am on Saturday September 4th 2004. All the information needed to get started on this contest will be included in the posting so teams that are ready can get going right away. Team updates can then be added on this new thread.

Only information for the first position will be posted. Instructions for finding the next postion will be inside the first container. Then the next container will have instructions for the next and so forth. You must find each location or there will be no "On to the next".

If you want to remain anonymous then you can certainly register a new team name on these forums, otherwise one of your team members can be the "Spokes Person" for the team and post updates under their username. Remember, you can only register one name per email address so to register a second name on these forums you must have a seperate email account somewhere.

So set your alarm clocks, gather your equipment, fill up your gas tanks, get your laptops all set up with the needed programs and get ready to win!

This game/contest is being put together by the Lizard Toads! The Lizard Toads team consists of The Potter&Suzer, The Cach-u-nuts, and DHobby1. This game idea was created by the Xtreme GPS team in Victoria BC Canada....Thanks Team! We had alot of fun as well as frustration this summer doing the Operation Desert Command contest in Moab and we thought it might be fun to to share a bit of our adventure with local geocachers. This is a scaled down version and should only take a week or two to complete. The $500 cash prize will be paid to the team who completes "all" of the required tasks first. There will be other prizes available but only the first place team will receive the "Ca$h". Other prizes will be awarded by a raffle ticket drawing at the end of the contest based on how many locations each team visited. Proof of each location will be required to earn a ticket. Proof will consist of correct number at each location along with a photo of at least one team member at the location wearing a contest badge. The team who wins the $500 grand prize will NOT be eligible for the raffle prizes. The contest will officially end Oct 20, 2004. All teams must have their proof photo's to us by Oct 22, 2004. The 1st place cash prize and the drawing for other prizes will be held on Oct 23, 2004 at a location still to be determined. Notice of the time and place will be posted in the forums in advance.

This contest will take you to some interesting places and test your hiking skills as well as your math skills. There will be approximately 10 tasks to complete. Some of the tasks will be to locate a metal disk with a number stamped on it, other tasks are hidden containers with a note of instructions inside. You must find each location in order to move on. Keep in mind that just because other teams may start before your team doesn't mean that they will finish first! These are not easy finds, you'll be required to figure waypoints using distances and bearings. Miscalculations may lead to some interesting mis-adventures. If "math" is not your best subject, recruit a math geek to be on your team. Once you figure out "where" the location is, the tag or container will be really close to those numbers. A digital camera will be required gear & you will need to email us a photo of each location and the item you find at that location. Include a member of your team in the photo wearing their badge. In fairness to all teams, PLEASE re-hide each container as you found it! Copy down the information on the note or take a photo of it and be sure to put the note back in the bottle. If you believe a tag or container has gone missing you will need to provide us with (1) a photo of the exact area that you are searching (2) The coordinates of that location - we will then determine if the item is missing. HINTS will NOT be given, so don't even ask!

The location of the first container will be posted in the UTAG forums on Sat morning Sept 4th. At this location you will find an ammo box with further instructions. There will be badges inside and all team members are welcome to take one, if only one team member visits this location then you take extras for your team members.

    CHECK LIST!

You must take a photo of the "note" or "tag #" at each of the locations you visit as proof or your visit. Email a photo of each location to the Lizard Toads at screeksurplus@comcast.net. **DO NOT TAKE THE NOTE WITH YOU**...... you must leave the note in the container and re-hide these containers exactly as you found them! These instructions are "very important" they lead you to your next destination. You may also want to carefully copy the note's instructions incase you can't read the note from the photo you take so be sure to carry a pen and note pad with you.

The first player or team to find the final destination (a sign) will be the money winner! You must email the Lizard Toads a picture of this sign.

    First set of instructions.

Instructions for finding your first location.

Find a cache at 12T 431286E 4509159N. In this cache there is a zip lock bag with game badges.

This postion does not count for getting a raffle ticket. You must project a waypoint correctly and find a hidden pill bottle or a metal disk in order to get a ticket. Be sure to get a badge for each member of your team.

The following information has also been listed in the UTAG forums so you may have already printed them out. In fact you might have already figured out the location of the first container which is a pill bottle hidden in a rock cairn. This pill bottle has a note in it that will direct you to the second hidden pill bottle. There are approximately 10 objectives to be found in this contest.

From this cache, you will need to go 186.400175 degrees true for a distance of 18.588066 miles.

Should be a piece of cake if you know the way to project waypoints. We don't want to tell you the exact method we used because down in Moab we figured the first couple of waypoints three different ways and had to determine the correct method by trial and error. Some of the later ones go a greater distance so you will be off by a greater amount if you are not using the correct method.

Good luck, have fun and may the best team win!

    The Lizard Toads.

So far we have heard from three teams that are out competing.
    Yellow Backs
    SciCal
    Lookin Under the Sagebrush

** Please Note ** None of the objectives are located inside mine tunnels or shafts and no rock climbing equipment was needed when we were placing them. If you are facing a dangerous approach to a cache site then think again, there is a safer way to get there!
