A Job Well Done

Canyonherder, one of our Platinum UTAG Members, gave a talk at the BLM Office in St. George on March 19th on the subject of Geocaching. This was a public meeting and the room was filled to capacity (about 70 people), including some BLM personnel.

Canyonherder reported in a forum post afterwards that one of the BLM people asked to speak for a few minutes and related that the BLM Headquarters in Washington had recently sent them a letter indicating that responsible geocaching is an acceptable activity on public BLM lands. In a later post to the same forum thread, MOCKBA posted the URL for an "Instruction Memorandum" published by the BLM on the subject of Geocaching. (Editor's Note: I've added a copy of that document on our UTAG website. It can be seen at the following link: BLM Instruction Memorandum 2003-182.

We should all join in offering Canyonherder our thanks for promoting Geocaching in the St. George area and for helping build a healthy relationship with the local BLM personnel.

UTAG Elections are in the works. Don't forget to email Ramblin Rover with the name of anyone you would like to nominate. Nominations end on April 10th. Voting will be done online via the UTAG Forums site and will take place during the first three weeks of May. Winners will be announced at the Annual UTAG Meeting on May 22.

Accomplishments of Note

  • VELTKAMP BRATS surpassed the 250-Cache mark. Click here to see the UTAG Hall of Fame.

  • Dutch1's "Cast Iron Skillet" Travel Bug reached its goal when La Paloma delivered it into the hands of Bob Kellermann, President and CEO of Lodge Mfg. It was made at this manufacturing plant and its goal was to return home. Apparently, La Paloma is due a nice prize from the Cast Iron Boss. Click here to see the Travel Bug page.
