General Guidelines for the UTAG Magazine

  • Size: Each issue will consist of at least three feature articles, plus other more-or-less regular features.
  • Schedule: There is no set publication schedule, except that I don't forsee ever publishing two issues in any one month. After publication of an issue, the next one will be published after I receive and prepare at least three more articles.
  • Subjects: The subjects of the articles can and should represent a wide variety of geocaching interests. Use your imagination and have fun with this.
  • Method of Submission: It really doesn't matter how you do it, as long as I get it. You could:
    1. include it as the text of an email;
    2. attach a file to the email: text, Word, or WordPerfect files are all acceptable.
  • HTML: If you want to include HTML that's fine, too.
  • Who to send it to: Send all UTAG Magazine submissions to SirGerald (Email: sirgerald1@yahoo.com)
  • Suggestions / Ideas: I'll always welcome suggestions for other "features" that could appear in each issue. This is OUR magazine, let's make it fun and useful for all of us.
Guidelines for Submitting Articles

  • Length of article: Whatever you want. Short is OK. Long is OK,
  • Format and Layout: Just submit the text of the article. I'll format it into a web page I have already prepared so that the magazine has a consistent look-and-feel throughout.
  • Hyperlinks are the beauty and power of the internet. If your article references something else on the internet that is of related interest, a hyperlink is always appropriate. If you know HTML, go ahead and include the anchor tag in the article, if not, just provide the URL information and I'll incorporate it into the article as a hyperlink.
  • Editing:If you have a good idea for an article, but you don't think your spelling or grammar are quite good enough, I'd be happy to edit it for you, at your request.
Guidelines for Submitting Photos

  • Positioning: If positioning is important to the article, indicate where they should appear. Otherwise, I'll just use my best judgement. Again, if you know HTML, go ahead and include the image references in the article.
  • Photo Files: My first choice is to have the photos stored on our webserver with the magazine. However, they can be stored on any available webserver -- if they're too large and you have a place on a personal website, just give me the link information. You can either attach them to your submission email or just provide me the URL information and I can download them myself. Remember, though, that Brownbag warns us that photo files should be kept small so we don't overload the bandwidth of the server.
  • Format: JPEG or GIF files are preferred.
  • Credit and Caption:Include as much information as you can about the photo. This includes, but is not limited to:
    1. A description of the subject(s) of the photo;
    2. Names of any identifiable people, places or things;
    3. When and where was it taken;
    4. Who should receive credit for the photo.
