CLOO is a simple game that can usually be played anytime, anywhere. It is similar to a popular board game with a name that sounds like CLOO. To win at CLOO, you need to figure out which Suspect did the nefarious deed with which Weapon and where it was done.

If you'd like to set up a CLOO game in your area, here's what you'd need to do:

  1. Click on the "CLOO Game Setup Form" link (on the left) and print it out for your convenience
  2. Make up names for 6 Suspects, 6 Weapons, and 6 Places (see current games for ideas)
  3. Decide on 18 code words of 4-8 letters. These can even be gibberish letters, if desired.
  4. Prepare 18 washers with one code word on each. I've found that stamped metal washers work best. (See the Setup Form for an offer from SirGerald to help out with this step.)
  5. Place the 18 washers in scattered places around the designated area. Note the WGS84 coordinates of each washer along with a simple one or two word hint.
  6. Submit a Puzzle-type cache page to Terracaching.com, Geocaching.com, or U-Cache at utahgeocachers.com with bogus coordinates somewhere in the middle of the game area. This cache page should remain disabled until the CLOO database has been setup and ready for play.
  7. Send the following things to SirGerald for entry into the CLOO database:
    • The names of the suspects, weapons, and places
    • The corresponding code words, coordinates and hints where each of the washers was placed
    • The name of the city or area where the CLOO game is located
    • The game code word the player will enter via the published cache page to verify they've solved the game.
    • The Publisher's cache ID number of the cache page you've submitted.
  8. When your CLOO game has been entered into the CLOO database, SirGerald will notify you by email that it is ready and give you the HTML code to add to your cache page so that players can enter their Game Code Word to verify that they have Solved the Mystery and qualify to enter a "Find" log for your cache.
  9. When your cache page has been updated, you can then enable it and you're ready to go.
